Multimarker approach to risk stratification in non-ST elevation acute coronary syndromes: simultaneous assessment of troponin I, C-reactive protein, and B-type natriuretic peptide.

BACKGROUND In patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS), troponin I (TnI), C-reactive protein (CRP), and B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) each predict adverse cardiac events. Little is known, however, about the utility of these biomarkers in combination. METHODS AND RESULTS Baseline measurements of TnI, CRP, and BNP were performed in 450 patients in OPUS-TIMI 16. Elevations in TnI, CRP, an...

Multimarker approach with cystatin C, N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide, C-reactive protein and red blood cell distribution width in risk stratification of patients with acute coronary syndromes.

INTRODUCTION AND AIM Biomarkers have emerged as interesting predictors of risk in patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS). The aim of this study was to determine the utility of the combined measurement of cystatin C (CysC), C-reactive protein (CRP), N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) and red blood cell distribution width (RDW) in the risk stratification of patients with A...

A Multimarker Approach to Evaluation of Patients With Acute Coronary Syndrome

The clinical application of biomarkers in patients with acute ischemic heart disease has evolved substantially. No longer is their use limited to the diagnosis of myocardial necrosis. Cardiac biomarkers may now be used as convenient and noninvasive tools to gain insight into the underlying causes and consequences of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) that mediate the risk of recurrent events and may...

The Effect of Two Different Doses of Atorvastatin on Lipoprotein-A on Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome

Background and Objectives: Lipoprotein-a potentially represents a useful tool for risk stratification in cardiovascular accidents.  The aim of this study was to evaluate the atorvastatin effect on serum lipid profile & lipoprotein A. Material & Methods: In 2009, 405 patients with acute coronary syndrome randomly were divided into 2 groups, taking 20 & 40 mg atorvastatin daily for 3 months. Lip...
